With Polish
Polish removes filler, sorts out spoken corrections and tidies punctuation. Choose how much cleanup you want, or turn it off. If Polish fails, your original transcription is kept.
Your text lands where you were typing. If automatic paste can't finish, it stays on your clipboard and the widget shows you how to paste it yourself.

Deepgram streaming opts out of model improvement, with no audio or transcript retention after processing. Hosted Groq processing is configured for zero data retention of audio and text. Account and usage information, including provider usage metadata, is retained. If you use your own API key, your provider account's settings apply. Read the privacy notice.

Every plan includes the same Polish features. Practice is always free and doesn't use your dictation allowance. Failed attempts don't count toward your five weekly Free dictations. Prices are in US dollars; applicable taxes may be added. Manage or cancel a paid plan in the app.

What to know about your Mac, your apps, and your first dictation.
What is speakeasy.?
speakeasy. is the Mac dictation app at speakeasywords.com. Hold a configurable key, speak English and release to draft text in ordinary editable fields. It runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 or later and uses online transcription.
Will it work on my Mac?
speakeasy. is built for Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Intel Macs aren't supported.
Which apps can I dictate into?
speakeasy. is designed for text fields where you normally type, including email drafts, messages, documents, and prompts. Some apps and custom or protected fields may need manual paste. The widget will tell you when to paste your text yourself.
What does Polish change?
Polish removes filler, sorts out spoken corrections, and tidies punctuation. It's designed to preserve your meaning, names, and file paths. Choose Minimal, Balanced, or Strong, or turn it off. If Polish fails, your original transcription is kept.
Do I need an account?
You can download the Mac app without an account. Sign in inside the app to use the Free, Standard, or Pro plan.
Is speakeasy. open source?
Yes. The Mac app's code is on GitHub under AGPL-3.0-or-later. Use a hosted plan, or build it yourself with your own Groq key and no speakeasy. account. The hosted backend isn't part of the repository.
Does it work offline or in other languages?
speakeasy. currently supports English and needs an internet connection for transcription and optional Polish.
How long can I speak at a time?
Record up to five minutes at a time on every plan. Paid allowances are measured in recorded audio, so time spent waiting for your text doesn't use your hours.
How does the Free allowance work?
Free includes five dictations each week outside Practice. The allowance resets Monday at 00:00 UTC. Failed attempts don't count, and Practice doesn't use your allowance.
